Introduction

We should talk about what love is not.  A child might say "I love you" to get out of trouble. Men, young and old, might say "I love you" just to get sex.. Women, young and old, might say "I love you" just to get something and have a rich dad or husband.  This is not love.  Luke 12:16-21, Luke 16:19-31, Luke 15:11-32

How does God our Father Love us?  He shows us in John 3:16.

John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

Our Creator knew before He created anything that Man-kind would need to be saved.

How does Christ our Lord love us?  He shows us in John 15:13.

John 15:13 "Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends."

Our Lord gave His life for all man-kind that believe on Him will be save. Jesus had to do what was in our best interest, which was dying for us. This is the true definition of love - doing what is in the best interest of others.

How should we love God and Christ?  With a sacrificial love as in Romans 12:1-3.

Romans 12:1-3 "I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned."

We must not Love things of this world. We must not be like the two rich men in Luke 12:16-21 and Luke 16:19-31. Both men were in love with things of this world.

Rather we must sacrifice daily as Christ did in Romans 5:6-8.

Romans 5:6-8 "For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person--though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die-- but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."

And we must love heavenly things as we are told in I John 2:15-17.

I John 2:15-17 "Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world--the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions--is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever."

How should we Love everyone? According as God has instructed us in John 13:34-35.

John 13:34-35 "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another."

We should be like the Good Samaritan in Luke 10:30-37, helping anyone in need because when you help them you plant, water and till the ground, growing the seed of the word in their soul for God to bring them to Him.

Conclusion:

We must love as God loves, not as the world loves.

John 14:15 "If you love me, you will keep my commandments."

John 14:23-24 "Jesus answered him, 'If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. Whoever does not love me does not keep my words. And the word that you hear is not mine but the Father's who sent me.'"

Are you Loving God as He defines love in the Word His Bible?

Are you obeying His Word?

If not please contact us so that might meet your need.
