(quotes are from the English Standard Version - ESV)

"But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." - Matthew 6:33

I. “Seek” - The word embraces several thoughts, such as “looking for,” “investigating,” “striving to obtain.”

II. “First”- It signifies degree, as: “in the first place," “above all,” "especially.”

III. “Kingdom of God”- The expression “kingdom of God,” in the sense of this context, is the “reign” of God in your life.

IV. “And His Righteousness”- The term “righteousness” signifies living the way God wants you to.

V. “All these things will be added to you

1. In the context, food, clothing, shelter.

2. God's promises always hold sure.
Romans 4:20-21 - "No distrust made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised."

3. The promise is conditional upon our obedience.

1) To seek first God's kingdom.

2) Leviticus 26:3-4 - "If you walk in my statutes and observe my commandments and do them, then I will give you your rains in their season, and the land shall yield its increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit."

Invitation

1) If you are a Christian but have fallen away

a. Is the kingdom of God and His righteousness first in your life?

b. If not, then make correction today.

2) If you are not a Christian . . .

a. You need to make God's kingdom first in your life.

b. The terms of entrance into that kingdom were given by Peter in Acts 2:38 - And Peter said to them, "Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."
